Echoes of Stone: The Renaissance of an Edinburgh Castle

  • Year: 2025

Perched amidst the mist-kissed hills of Edinburgh, an aged castle awakens to a new purpose — reborn not as a relic, but as a haven. The renovation project reimagines this historic structure as a refined boutique hotel, where legacy and luxury intertwine. Within its storied walls, the program unfolds gracefully: a grand lobby, eighteen standard rooms, and five master suites. Each space is designed to preserve the spirit of the past while embracing the quiet sophistication of modern hospitality. The lobby — a core expression of the project — spans 85 square meters, beginning at the -2 elevation level and serving as the heart of circulation to the other floors via a sculptural staircase and an elegantly integrated lift. Its material palette tells a story of contrast and harmony: polished marble flooring meets genuine walnut wood, while subtle gypsum mouldings echo the rhythm of the castle’s original Gothic windows. The result is an aesthetic poised delicately between Art Deco refinement and Neoclassical grace. This project is more than a restoration; it is a dialogue between time and craftsmanship — an effort to let history breathe once more through contemporary design.
